We are extremely proud that, on 10 November, at the Fire Industry Association annual lunch, the major event in the calendar of the Association, attended by several hundred representatives of the fire industry and distinguished guests, our Managing Director, Colin Todd, was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award. This prestigious award is bestowed by the Board of the FIA, each year, for a person who has made an outstanding contribution to the fire industry over their career. It is the most prestigious award granted by the Association.
You may already be aware of the high regard in which Colin is held within the fire safety profession. This is in part because of his major contribution to the profession, through huge amounts of time spent voluntarily on the work of bodies, such as the Institution of Fire Engineers, the British Standards Institution and the Fire Industry Association. As a proud Scot, he also enjoys an excellent and long-standing relationship with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Scottish Government, again voluntarily giving pro bono time to both of these.
In introducing Colin as the recipient of this year’s award, FIA Chief Executive Officer, Ian Moore, said of Colin:
“This award is our most prestigious….. Colin has devoted considerable amounts of time to work on professional body and trade association committees and working groups, and technical committees of the British Standards Institution, for which he was awarded a Distinguished Service Certificate by BSI for valuable contributions. This is all in addition to running his consulting practice, C.S. Todd and Associates, which he established in 1982. Under his leadership, the well-established culture of the consultancy is to dedicate resources and time voluntarily, and without commercial gain, to contribute to the fire safety profession and any bodies that would benefit from the assistance and expertise of the C.S. Todd and Associates’ consultancy team. A great deal of Colin’s time has been taken up with work on Government and other committees, both in England and Scotland, making a major contribution to the efforts of the fire safety sector and Government, to ensure that such a tragedy (Grenfell) never occurs again. His ideas in this respect resulted in changes to the measures required under building regulations in Scotland, some of which have been subsequently adopted by the relevant Government departments in England. To this day, Colin works tirelessly for the fire safety industry. He is iconic and not always for the right reasons! He speaks his mind, but with authority and knowledge that few can challenge.”
Everyone here at C.S. Todd & Associates offers huge congratulations to Colin for this extremely well-deserved award.
