Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service have created the above video as part of their awareness campaign called ‘Simple Changes Save Lives’.
The video gives simple advice to homeowners about what to do if a fire does start from a battery.
Most UK households now have many items that contain Lithium-Ion batteries such as mobile phones, e-bikes/scooters, vacuum cleaners and even children’s toys. All these items can be a potential fire risk if not treated correctly and the size of the battery has a direct impact on the risk. A Lithium-ion battery fire can start and develop so quickly that even smoke detectors may not be any use if the item is being charged in the only way out of the home.
